PRODUCT DESIGN BASIS & LIMITATIONS
Applicable to Steel, Aluminum, and Galvanized Roller Shutters – Including Insulated Fire Shutters, Non-Insulated Fire Shutters, and Security Shutters
1.
General Design Basis
All roller shutter systems supplied by Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. are designed in accordance with standard engineering practices, manufacturer specifications, and typical usage conditions. Unless expressly specified and agreed in writing during the tender or purchase stage, all products shall be supplied based on Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd.’s standard design parameters, material selection, and operational characteristics. Any requirement or expectation not expressly stated shall be deemed excluded, and no implied condition or performance obligation shall apply.
2.
Roller Shutter Motor and Operating Duty
All motors are selected based on manufacturer-rated capacity and duty cycle, including limitations on maximum load, operating duration, and frequency. Unless otherwise specified in writing, motors are intended for normal usage only and not for high-frequency, heavy-duty, or continuous operation. Any requirement for higher usage, heavier load, quieter operation, or special control must be declared at the tender stage. Any operation beyond rated limits shall be deemed misuse, and all resulting risks shall be borne by the user.
3.
Structural Support Responsibility
The adequacy and integrity of all supporting structures, including lintels and anchorage substrates, shall be the sole responsibility of the main contractor and/or client. Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd.’s responsibility is limited to proper installation and alignment based on the assumption of adequate structural support. No liability shall arise from failure, detachment, or safety risk due to inadequate structure, weak substrates (including lightweight block), or site conditions. Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. reserves the right to suspend or refuse installation where conditions are unsafe or non-compliant.
4.
Noise and Operational Sound
Roller shutters are metal-based systems, and inherent operational noise from slat interlocking, metal contact, and guide interaction is unavoidable. Such sound shall be considered normal provided installation is correct, and no abnormal obstruction exists. Noise shall not constitute a defect unless caused by a proven installation fault. No acoustic performance is guaranteed unless expressly specified.
5.
Wear and Tear and Surface Finish
Due to the rolling mechanism, minor scratches, paint wear, and surface marks are expected over time. For large span shutters, push or support rollers may cause minor indentation or deformation within tolerance. Such conditions are normal and shall not be considered defects, provided functionality is not affected.
6.
Wind Load and Environmental Conditions
Unless expressly specified, roller shutters are designed for general security purposes only and not for wind load resistance. When wind lock systems are provided, they are designed for the intended conditions but must be inspected and maintained after exposure to storms or wind events. Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. shall not be liable for damage or failure arising from environmental conditions beyond design intent.
7.
Performance versus Aesthetic Expectation
Roller shutters are industrial systems and not architectural finishes. Visible fixings, minor alignment tolerances, and surface irregularities are acceptable within industrial standards. Visual appearance shall not be grounds for rejection unless it affects performance.
8.
Maintenance Requirement
All systems require periodic maintenance, including lubrication, alignment checks, and inspection of motors and safety devices. Failure to maintain will affect performance, void the warranty, and result in the release of Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. from liability.
9.
Power Supply and Control System
The provision of a stable power supply is the responsibility of others. Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. shall not be liable for damage or malfunction caused by voltage fluctuation, power surge, electrical fault, or improper wiring. Control systems are supplied based on standard configuration unless otherwise specified.
10.
Fire-Rated Shutters
Fire-rated shutters shall be installed and used strictly in accordance with tested configurations and approved standards. Any modification, removal, or third-party interference shall immediately void certification and release Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. from all liability.
11.
Dimensional and Design Constraints
Maximum size and configuration are subject to material limitations, shaft deflection, motor capacity, and structural feasibility. Any requirement beyond standard limits shall be subject to engineering review and approval.
12.
Safety and Operational Limitation
Roller shutters are not designed for impact loading or misuse, including forced operation or obstruction. Safety devices are supplementary and do not replace proper operation and supervision, which remain the user’s responsibility.
13.
Exclusion of Unspecified Requirements
Any requirement not expressly stated in writing shall be deemed excluded, including acoustic performance, wind resistance, high-cycle operation, corrosion protection, and hazardous area compliance.
14.
Third-Party Interference
Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. shall not be liable for any damage or failure resulting from unauthorized repair, modification, dismantling, or adjustment by third parties.
15.
Limitation of Liability
The total liability of Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. shall be limited to the contract value of the affected system. Under no circumstances shall it be liable for indirect or consequential losses, including delay, loss of use, or business interruption.
16.
Payment and Ownership
All goods remain the property of Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. until full payment is received. In the event of non-payment, Star Rolling Shutter Sdn. Bhd. reserves the right to suspend work, withhold commissioning, or remove installed systems.
17.
Deemed Acceptance
Upon issuance of the purchase order, commencement of fabrication, or installation, the client shall be deemed to have accepted all terms and limitations stated herein.
18.
Governing Principle
All limitations are inherent to the product design and define the system’s performance boundary. Any expectation beyond these limits shall not be implied unless expressly agreed in writing.
